Course Description

Wide Area Networks(WANs) are used to connect remote facilities together. This course will focus on modern WAN technologies including PPP, PPPoE, GRE, MetroEthernet, and MPLS. Anytime an organization requires network access to a remote facility, engineers need a way to connect the remote site to the main network. WAN technologies are used to do this and come in several types to accommodate different needs. In this course, WAN Technologies for Cisco CCNA 200-125/200-105, you'll look at several WAN technologies including PPP, PPPoE, PPP Multilink, MetroEthernet, dark fiber, MPLS, and GRE/VPN tunnels. First, you'll learn how to implement a PPP connection using encrypted authentication. Next, you'll discover how to bundle several serial links together to increase the bandwidth. Finally, you'll explore how to troubleshoot PPPoE and build a GRE tunnel. By the end of this course, you'll be more comfortable with Wide Area Networks(WANs) communications.

What you will learn

Hi everyone. My name is Ross Bagurdes, and welcome to my course WAN Technologies. I am a network engineer with 20 years' experience building and managing enterprise networks and teaching people about them. Wide area networks, or WANs, are used to connect remote facilities together. These remote facilities might be a mile apart or they might be hundreds of miles apart. WAN technologies provide the connections and protocols needed to allow remote facilities to connect into the corporate network. We'll cover several WAN technologies in this course including point-to-point serial links using Point-to-Point Protocol, Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. We'll talk about dark fiber and Metro Ethernet, as well as MPLS. We'll also look at building GRE tunnels, as well as describe VPN tunnel operation. By the end of this course, you'll be able to implement a PPP connection using encrypted authentication, you'll bundle several serial links together to increase the bandwidth between two sites, and you'll also be able to troubleshoot PPPoE, as well as build a GRE tunnel. Before beginning the course, you should be familiar with the information provided in the CCENT, or the C-C-E-N-T learning path series of courses here at Pluralsight. From here, you should feel comfortable moving on to network services for the CCNA 200-125 exam. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn wide area network communications with the WAN Technologies course at Pluralsight.
